Authorities in Durham Region are looking for a suspect after a 23-year-old man lost his life following a brawl outside a Tim Hortons in Oshawa.
Officials report they received a call just after 8 p. m. on Saturday about an armed individual near Simcoe Street North and Winchester Road East. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man with “traumatic injuries.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, two groups of men were involved in a physical confrontation outside the restaurant located at 2700 Simcoe Street North.
“During that altercation, the victim suffered fatal injuries,” police said in a statement issued Sunday. “The suspect and several other males fled on foot south and east of the Tim Horton’s.”
“An extensive search, with the assistance of Air1 and the DRPS K9 Unit, was conducted; however, the suspects were not located,” police added.
Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and are asking anyone who was near 2700 Simcoe Street North between 7:30 p. m. and 9:00 p. m. who may have footage of the incident to reach out to authorities.
This marks Durham Region’s third homicide of the year.
