Authorities are searching for a getaway driver and two suspects who reportedly pretended to be police officers while stealing from residents in Kitchener.

A report was made to the Waterloo Regional Police Service just before 2 PM on Tuesday, originating from a residence on Arrowhead Crescent.

This location is near the intersection of Homer Watson Boulevard and Pioneer Drive in Kitchener.

According to police, two individuals approached a home and informed the senior occupants that they were investigating a fraud as police officers.

The suspects allegedly coerced the victims into surrendering what authorities describe only as “a large sum of money.”

They fled the scene in a dark blue Volkswagen Atlas SUV that was parked nearby, driven by a third suspect.

Police provided these descriptions for the two impostors posing as law enforcement:

White or tan males One with a medium build, the other slightly smaller Approximately six feet tall One has dark hair Both wore navy blue T-shirts, dark beige khaki pants, brown shoes, and navy blue baseball caps with logos

Investigators urge anyone living on or around Arrowhead Crescent to review their home security footage for any suspicious people or vehicles seen on Tuesday afternoon.

If you have any information, please contact police at 519-570-9777, or reach out anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or by clicking here.

Additionally, they’ve shared some advice if someone claims to be an officer:

Do not let anyone inside your home until you’ve verified their identity. Request to see both a badge and warrant card. Authentic police ID will feature a photo, name, rank, and police service. Take your time examining the identification closely. If you’re uncertain, close the door and call Waterloo Regional Police to confirm. If they are legitimate, they will understand your need to verify their identity. If you feel threatened or unsafe at any point, dial 911. Stay Informed
