On Tuesday, Oakville Town Council appointed Jamie Bay as the new town councillor for Ward 5 after the passing of Coun. Marc Grant in July.
Since Grant passed away more than 90 days prior to this year’s municipal election, the Municipal Act, 2001 mandates that his seat be filled.
“On behalf of town council, I congratulate Jamie Bay on his appointment as the Ward 5 town councillor for the remainder of this term of council,” said Mayor Rob Burton.
“We continue to mourn the passing of our colleague Coun. Marc Grant and this appointment both honours his memory and ensures Ward 5 representation is maintained.”
The appointment was initially planned for the Sept. 28 council meeting, but Jeff Knoll, Ward 5 town and regional councillor, proposed an alternate motion to identify and appoint Bay on Tuesday to maintain governance in Ward 5.
“Jamie has called Ward 5 home for nearly 20 years and has deep roots in our community. He is a pastor, an active community volunteer, a husband and a father,” Knoll said in a social media post.
Bay will be serving as town councillor for Ward 5 for the balance of the 2022-26 term of council.
