In a statement released by the college on Wednesday, Jun. 24, 2026, SLC’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc N) program has been granted a seven-year accreditation, which applies to all three campuses as well as its Practical Nurse to BSc N Bridge program.
This achievement signifies that SLC’s program complies with national standards for nursing education, according to the college.
In the announcement, Laralea Stalkie, Interim Dean of Health, Wellness, & Community Services and Academic Operations at SLC, noted that the next accreditation review won’t be necessary until 2033.
“This achievement is a direct reflection of the dedication, professionalism, and teamwork shown across all groups involved in our nursing program. I am incredibly proud of the commitment to excellence in nursing education that this accreditation recognizes,” she stated.
Obtaining CASN accreditation requires a thorough multi-step review process which includes showing evidence on how it meets national standards in areas like curriculum, faculty qualifications, governance, resources, and student outcomes, Stalkie explained.
According to the release, CASN assesses key elements such as:
whether a program’s curriculum is current and aligned with entry-to-practice competencies if faculty and leadership are qualified and engaged if resources such as clinical placements, labs, and technology are adequate whether strong quality assurance processes are in place to support continuous improvement
For students enrolled in the program, this accreditation confirms they are part of a high-quality educational experience based on evidence and aligned with national standards. This prepares them to become competent and safe nurses upon graduation. It also boosts graduates’ confidence and job prospects. For faculty members, this seven-year accreditation serves as formal recognition of their teaching quality and program design while promoting an environment focused on continual improvement and innovation according to the release.
“This is an incredible achievement for our college, and I am so proud of our nursing faculty,” said Glenn Vollebregt, SLC President and CEO.
“We have a long tradition of providing excellent nursing training. With this validation from the accreditation body, we know that our graduates are among the best educated and trained in the province.”
