A part of Highway 6 in Hamilton’s Flamborough area is shut down after a crash involving a commercial vehicle, according to police.
The closure extends from Freelton Road to Concession 11 E., within the Freelton community, as noted in a social media update from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Authorities report that around 3:30 a. m., a tractor trailer loaded with steel hit a construction barrier, crossed all lanes, and collided with another barrier on the opposite side, “resulting in a diesel spill into the ditch” and prompting a complete road closure.
This accident happened in an active construction zone where lanes were already closed for maintenance work, police stated.
On X at 4:44 a. m. Monday, OPP informed drivers to anticipate a “prolonged closure for investigation and clean-up.” They are advising motorists to find alternative routes.
The full closure is expected to last until 7 p. m., according to police on Monday afternoon, “for concrete barrier repair and replacement.”
OPP confirmed there were no injuries and that charges may be filed.
“Reduce your speed and pay attention in construction zones,” OPP said.
