The City of Sarnia has been awarded $400,000 from Ontario’s Building Faster Fund for the third consecutive year.

This funding is granted to municipalities that meet at least 80 percent of their housing targets set by the province.

In 2025, Sarnia started construction on 654 new homes, fulfilling its annual target, according to a news release from the province.

Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Rob Flack mentioned that Sarnia continues to be vital in meeting Ontario’s housing demands.

“Our government is supporting growing municipalities by investing in essential housing-enabling infrastructure and removing barriers to development, including through the recently announced Development Charge Reduction Program,” said Flack.

Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey expressed pride in his government’s partnership with the city to speed up housing development.

“This investment represents another major step in our ongoing commitment to boost housing supply and make homeownership a reality for more families in Sarnia-Lambton,” Bailey stated.

Mayor Mike Bradley noted that this funding goes beyond just constructing homes.

“It’s about creating the conditions to move projects forward and support the growth of our community,” Bradley said. “Sarnia is proud to have consistently exceeded its provincial housing targets in all three years of the Building Faster Fund program.”

The $1.2 billion program was introduced in August 2023. Typically, these funds are allocated for infrastructure necessary to support new housing and expanding communities.

The same amount was granted in 2025 and 2024 for surpassing housing targets.
