Authorities in Kawartha Lakes and Durham Region are on the lookout for a small plane that “has failed to return as expected.”
In a statement released Saturday morning, Ontario Provincial Police asked the public for help in finding the aircraft, which is described as a small single-seat blue plane with “FOFZ” marked on the tail.
The pilot has been identified as 73-year-old David. He’s known to be an experienced flyer, standing five-foot-seven with a slim build, black/grey hair, and a moustache.
Police reported that he took off from Oshawa Airport at 8:30 a. m. on Friday in his home-built aircraft and was supposed to come back about an hour later.
“David typically flies in the area south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog; however, the last known position of the aircraft is believed to be near Balsam Lake,” stated the Durham Regional Police Service in their announcement on Saturday.
A search operation is still underway.
