A 10-year-old is currently in the hospital with what Ontario Provincial Police are describing as life-threatening injuries following a two-vehicle accident on the 401 in Lakeshore.
The crash took place around 7 p. m. on Sunday in the Woodslee area, close to Belle River Road (County Road 27).
According to police, another child, an 8-year-old involved in the incident, sustained injuries but is expected to recover. Both drivers are also said to be okay.
One driver, a 32-year-old woman from Windsor, has been charged with impaired driving and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm. She has received a 90-day suspension of her driver’s license and her vehicle was impounded for seven days.
Police confirm that both children were passengers in the accused’s vehicle.
The other driver involved is a 26-year-old man from Windsor.
“If you have an urgent traffic complaint or if you suspect someone is driving while their ability to operate a motor vehicle is impaired by drugs or alcohol, please call 911 immediately,” OPP said in a statement.
The accused will appear in court on July 30 to respond to the charges.
