It is with great sadness that the family shares the news of Susanne Christie’s passing. She died peacefully on July 28, 2026, in Saskatoon at Stensrud Lodge at the age of 80.
Susanne leaves behind her husband Robert Christie, their two daughters Lisa and Angela (partner Joshua Beaudry), and grandson Beau. She is also survived by her brother Antal (Tony) Schidlo and his wife Rae, along with her sister Brigitte Sonmor (Fred).
Born on June 10, 1946 in Bremen, Germany, Susanne moved to Saskatoon with her parents and siblings in 1952. She went to Westmount Elementary School before attending Bedford Road Collegiate where she played basketball and showed school spirit as a cheerleader. It was during their time on the Student Council that she met Robert, leading them to become high school sweethearts. She later studied at the University of Saskatchewan and earned a Bachelor of Education degree. Susanne married Robert on December 6, 1968. In her fulfilling career, she taught elementary and special education classes across several schools in Saskatoon. After retiring, she started “To Hell with Bells,” an annual Fall event for retired teachers from Saskatoon that still takes place today.
Susanne was actively involved in various community events including volunteering at Persephone Theatre and the Children’s Festival while being a dedicated member of the Saskatoon Quilters Guild. Her love for sewing blossomed early on; she became known for creating unique baby bibs, blankets, and chenilles. Quilting was another passion of hers. As a proud Canadian, Susanne received First Place in a Provincial quilt-making contest marking Canada’s sesquicentennial anniversary. She also enjoyed tending to her orchids and gardening as well as Scottish Country dancing and attending yoga sessions.
The joy Susanne found in children shone through in how she raised her daughters with care and pride while cherishing moments spent with her grandson Beau. The sound of Sue’s laughter combined with her warm personality made people feel drawn to her wherever she went. The numerous friendships formed throughout her life highlight the kindness and happiness she shared so generously.
Susanne will be missed dearly by her loving family along with many friends and colleagues who will remember her fondly.
In accordance with Susanne’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and plans are underway for a Memorial Gathering to Celebrate her life which will be announced later.
If desired, donations can be made in memory of Susanne to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan instead of sending flowers.
