It was the first day for candidates across Ontario to file, and already two individuals are vying for the mayor’s position in Windsor-Essex.

Deputy Mayor Joe Bachetti has put his name forward to run for mayor against current officeholder Gary Mc Namara. Bachetti confirmed his candidacy with Windsor News Today. ca on Friday afternoon.

Bachetti has served as deputy mayor since 2014. He also holds the position of Deputy Warden of Essex County and chairs the Essex County Library Board.

Ward 5 Councillor Tania Jobin has announced her intention to run for deputy mayor.

In Ward 2, incumbent James Dorner will face challenger Suanne Hawkins in the election.

Marisa Nabbout is stepping up to run for Jobin’s seat in Ward 5.

Amherstburg

In Amherstburg, incumbent Michael Prue is seeking re-election.

Deputy Mayor Chris Gibb has entered the race against Prue, joined by former councillor Frank Di Pasquale.

Councillor Linden Crain, who had the highest vote count in the 2022 election and is recognized as the youngest elected official in Windsor-Essex, has filed to run for Gibb’s position.

Essex

The current first-term mayor Sherry Bondy is asking voters for another four years in office.

Incumbents Rob Shepley and Kim Verbeek are aiming to secure new terms as deputy mayor and Ward 2 councillor respectively. Bill Baker has also entered the competition for Ward 3.

Kingsville

Roshan Nallaratnam is running for mayor against first-term incumbent Dennis Rogers.

Kimberly De Yong aims to secure another term as deputy mayor.

Sheri Lowrie, currently serving at-large council, has submitted her nomination papers as well.

Councillor Mike Seguin, who won a by-election following Sue Desjarlais’ passing last year, is now looking to secure a full four-year term. La Salle follows an at-large council system.
