We lost our dear Shawn way too soon. Life wasn’t always kind to him. Shawn struggled with schizophrenia for a long time, and the pain and sadness he faced became overwhelming. Sadly, he died by suicide on May 24, 2025. Even though his illness took away so much of his adult life, there were still many special moments we’ll always hold dear.
Shawn’s loving Mom, Chris Wilson (nee Van den Eynden), was his rock and biggest supporter. She stood by him through thick and thin. Chris, we’re grateful for your incredible dedication.
Some may think about the what ifs, but we choose to remember the good times instead. There are plenty of those that will make us laugh out loud.
For those who knew Shawn, they recognized his beautiful mind and kind heart. His humor was one of a kind. But let’s talk about that kind heart for a moment-right up until just hours before he left us, Shawn was thinking of others and trying to do good deeds.
Our beloved Shawn had many interests throughout his life. He cherished flying as a pilot and worked in various roles in the oil patch. He also helped Eugene Mc Lean (another strong supporter in his life) with flooring tasks quite well. Shawn took pride in being an inventor; many of his ideas were creative yet practical. Honestly, each patent he pursued aimed to benefit others.
You can see that Shawn was surrounded by love from many people who cared deeply for him. We only wish he were here so we could give him all those hugs again.
Shawn was born on November 3, 1973. In addition to his Mom (Chris Wilson), he will be remembered fondly by his Van den Eynden uncles and aunts: Martin, Anthony (Charmaine), Anne-Marie, Elizabeth (Rob), Gary, Kim and their extended families. On the Wilson side, he’ll be remembered by his uncle Stan (Christie), great uncle Lawrence Cluney, aunt Marlene and their extended families who were always there for him.
Family members who loved Shawn but have passed include Eugene Mc Lean (his Mom’s life partner), maternal grandparents Antonious and Antonia Van den Eynden; paternal grandparents Leonard and Rosalind Wilson; father John Wilson; uncle Jim Wilson; aunts Marilyn Wilson; John (Cathy) Van den Eynden.
A service for Shawn will take place at 11 a. m. on Saturday June 7, 2025 at Eagles Funeral Chapel. If you’d like to make a donation in his honor, please consider your local SPCA as recognition of Shawn’s genuine kindness towards all animals.
