Royal Canadian Legions in Ontario, including those in Whitby and Brooklin, can now allocate more funds towards helping veterans and their communities thanks to a new provincial rebate.

Branches that are applying for or renewing their liquor sales licenses may receive a rebate from the government. This rebate program started on June 1, 2026, and is retroactive to April 1.

“Ontario’s legions have long been at the heart of communities across our province, serving veterans, supporting local charities and bringing people together,” said Attorney General Doug Downey. “That’s why our government is providing liquor sales licence fee rebates that will help legion branches dedicate more resources to the people and causes they serve across Ontario.”

A statement from Whitby MPP Lorne Coe highlights that Whitby Legion Branch 112 and Brooklin Legion Branch 152 are essential in assisting veterans and their families while also promoting remembrance traditions, leading fundraising activities, and organizing community events that unite residents.

“The Brooklin and Whitby Legions have a long history of serving veterans and strengthening our community,” said Coe. “Our government is proud to support legions by reducing costs so they can continue investing in the people, programs and services that matter most to veterans and local families.”

A total of 391 legion branches throughout Ontario currently hold liquor sales licenses and are eligible for this rebate program.
