The Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre reports that a home-built plane, which didn’t return to Oshawa, Ont., last week, has been located. However, the 73-year-old pilot who was flying it remains unaccounted for.
The search-and-rescue team indicates that the aircraft was discovered on Wolf Lake within Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park in the Kawartha Lakes area.
Ontario Provincial Police are now treating this as a missing person case, with search units ready to assist in locating the man.
A significant search operation began on Friday after the plane took off from Oshawa Airport at 8:30 a. m. but failed to come back by 9:30 a. m. that same morning.
Durham regional police have identified the missing individual as David, using only his first name. They noted he is an experienced pilot who typically flies around the area south of Kawartha Lakes and north of Lake Scugog.
Authorities have described the aircraft as a blue and yellow home-built model marked with “FOFZ” on its tail.
