For kids battling serious health issues, sometimes a wriggly snake can be just the thing to bring a smile and some hope.
A big donation of plush animals helps as well.
Reptilia, which runs accredited reptile zoos in Vaughan, Whitby and London, visited Ronald Mc Donald House in Toronto last month to host a free reptile education program for children and families staying there.
Since 1981, Ronald Mc Donald House has been keeping families with seriously ill children together and close to the care they need at their location on Mc Caul Street in downtown Toronto.
The animal care and education team from Reptilia brought along several reptile ambassadors for an interactive show, giving families a chance to see the animals up close while learning about their biology, adaptations, conservation efforts, and care.
“Community education has always been an important part of what we do at Reptilia,” said Reptilia General Manager Ryan Vince. “We were grateful for the opportunity to spend some time with the families, share a few incredible animals and hopefully bring a little extra fun to their day.”
Reptilia offers animal care, conservation projects, and educational programs for schools, families, and community groups across the province.
The zoo is committed to connecting people with reptiles through education, conservation efforts, and responsible animal care. Its educational initiatives provide hands-on learning experiences aimed at fostering greater understanding and appreciation for reptiles and their role in nature.
Ronald Mc Donald House Toronto supports 81 families just minutes away from The Hospital for Sick Children (Sick Kids) and Mt. Sinai Hospital.
