Great Lakes Helicopter (GLH) kicked off construction last week in Waterloo for a new hangar, marking the second phase of their expansion.
This new facility at the Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) will enhance their operations, workforce training, and investment in advanced aviation and aerial tech, building on the company’s solid foundation in pilot training, maintenance, and specialized aviation services.
“This groundbreaking reflects the dedication of the entire Great Lakes Helicopter team and our shared vision for the future of Canadian aviation,” said Chad Mc Intosh, Owner and Managing Director of Great Lakes Helicopter. “This investment is about more than expanding our facilities; it’s about creating opportunities for the next generation of Canadian pilots and aviation professionals while fostering innovation across our industry.

Made up of Great Lakes Helicopter, Rotor Services Limited, GLH Drones, and heli SIX, this group has transformed over two decades from a pilot training school into a diverse aviation services organization that supports training, maintenance, commercial operations, and emerging aerial technologies. Under new ownership, they’re uniting local aviation enthusiasts and entrepreneurs with experience across various industries.
