The City of Barrie has revealed plans for a new rental housing project that will introduce 268 units to the city, including 54 affordable homes.
Put forward by Black Creek Group, this development will be located at 17 Sophia St. and is part of the city’s efforts to enhance the availability of both rental and affordable housing options.
“Council has made increasing the supply of affordable housing a priority,” Mayor Alex Nuttall stated. “The 54 affordable units at 17 Sophia Street are part of the more than 770 affordable homes approved across our city, and this project reflects the strong partnership between the City and Black Creek Group to deliver more housing for Barrie residents.”
The affordable units contribute to over 770 affordable homes that have been greenlit by council through various investments, partnerships, and housing incentive programs.
“This development reflects what’s possible when the public and private sectors work together,” said Black Creek Group founder and managing partner Nicholas Francis, emphasizing how collaboration can yield significant benefits.
“We’re proud to partner with the City of Barrie to deliver new rental housing, including affordable units, that will help meet the needs of current and future residents.”
