A fresh Canadian teen drama series filmed in Barrie, Wasaga Beach, and Orillia is set to launch on Netflix on Thursday, Jan. 22.

Finding Her Edge (initially named Precision), an eight-episode show, is based on the Young Adult novel by Jennifer Iacopelli that dives into the world of competitive figure skating.

The show’s PR team confirmed with that filming took place at various locations throughout Simcoe County.

They shot scenes on Mississauga Street East between Peter Street South and Matchedash Street South in Orillia, as well as at the Orillia Public Library and the Orillia Museum of Art and History in February 2025.

Other filming spots included Barrie at Georgian College, Eastview Arena, and on Shannon Street off St. Vincent Street in March 2025. Finally, in April 2025, they wrapped up shooting at Wasaga Stars Arena in Wasaga Beach.

The storyline follows three sisters who are dealing with the challenges of their family’s figure skating legacy.

Adriana Russo stars as Madelyn Keys, a passionate competitive skater caught in a love triangle involving two rival skaters: her new partner Braydon Elliot (Cale Ambrozic), known as the “bad boy of figure skating,” and her former partner Freddie O’Connell (Olly Atkins), who was once her true love. The series promises a mix of young romance, friendships, sibling bonds, and all tied together through a sport that’s quintessentially Canadian.

With most of the cast being Canadian along with an entirely Canadian creative team, this series highlights Canada’s talent with potential for international success.

Canadian TV shows have been gaining global recognition lately – for instance, Heated Rivalry is currently airing on Crave and has made waves for bringing LGBTQ2+ hockey players into focus within popular discussions.

Iacopelli, an American author, writes about “ambitious girls with big dreams” according to Penguin Random House.
