The Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 16-year-old with murder after the death of another teenager in Perth, a small town near Ottawa.
Officers from the OPP’s Lanark County detachment were called to North Street North and Sherbrooke Street East in Perth just before 3:00 p. m. on Friday, October 25, 2024.
One individual was found deceased, and another person was taken into custody at a nearby home, according to a statement from the OPP which provided no further details about the incident involving the teenagers.
The teen has been charged with second-degree murder, as stated by the OPP.
A second-degree murder charge usually applies when a killing is intentional but not planned ahead of time.

The accused is currently held in custody and will have a virtual bail hearing today before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth.

The police informed local residents that they can expect to see an increased police presence as investigators continue looking into this murder case. This effort includes members from Lanark County OPP working alongside the Lanark County Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Unit.
The Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service are also involved in this investigation.
