York Regional Police report that a home invasion in Vaughan early Wednesday morning resulted in a serious accident and the arrest of a 17-year-old boy, while other suspects are still on the run.

Officers responded to the area of Pine Valley Drive and Teston Road at around 4:18 a. m. after receiving reports of a home invasion involving at least three individuals. According to police, the suspects left the house in the homeowner’s vehicle. Fortunately, no one inside was harmed.

A little while later, the stolen car was involved in a single-vehicle crash near Teston Road and Cityview Boulevard. Following the collision, the vehicle burst into flames, police stated.

The driver, who is identified as a male youth, was taken into custody at the scene and rushed to a Toronto hospital with serious injuries to his leg. Several other passengers from the vehicle fled on foot and remain unaccounted for.

K9 units were sent to search the area; however, investigators believe that those remaining suspects managed to get away despite a significant police presence.

Authorities think all suspects have left but mentioned that residents should expect continued police activity throughout the morning. York Regional Police have not yet released descriptions of any suspects.

Police spent several hours gathering evidence at both Pine Valley Drive/Teston Road and Teston Road/Cityview Boulevard. Roads in these areas have since reopened.

Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca expressed relief that no one sustained physical injuries but acknowledged that events like this create ongoing fear and frustration within the community.

“I am fed up that this continues to happen,” he said in a statement. “Vaughan has always been a safe city, but too many residents are feeling anxious and unsafe in their own homes.”

Del Duca also highlighted his city’s plan to fund at least 10 additional CCTV cameras equipped with automated license plate recognition and gunshot detection technology as part of an effort to deter crime and catch offenders.

“But we can’t do it alone. The federal government must fix the broken criminal justice system to ensure that once these criminals are caught, they stay behind bars
