The individual who was fatally shot in a targeted attack in Vaughan on Monday has been named.
Police got multiple calls reporting gunfire at a plaza located at Winges and Rowntree Dairy roads, close to Highway 7 and Highway 400, shortly after 1 p. m.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a man who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a business. He was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries but unfortunately succumbed later.
He has been identified as Sergio Lopes, 65, from Richmond Hill. The cause of death has been ruled as gunshot wounds.
Not long after the shooting occurred, officers were dispatched to investigate a vehicle fire on Kipling Avenue, north of Woodbridge Avenue.
The black SUV matched the description of the car that fled the scene right after the shooting. It was later confirmed to be that same vehicle.
No one was inside the vehicle when it was found, and there were no reported injuries.
Investigators suspect that this shooting was deliberate; however, they have not released any information regarding potential suspects.
