A Toronto police officer has been shot while officers conducted a raid on an apartment believed to be connected to the attack on the US consulate that occurred in March.

Toronto police confirmed that an officer was shot before 6am (1000 GMT) during a search warrant in the north-west area of the city and has been taken to the hospital.

According to , which cited an unnamed source, the search warrant is part of a national security probe linked to the shooting incident at the US consulate in downtown Toronto on 10 March.

At that time, Toronto police stated that two men had fired several shots at the vacant US diplomatic building just before sunrise.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported from that incident, which Pete Hoekstra, the US ambassador to Canada, described as “deeply troubling”.

Canada’s federal police have indicated that their investigation into the consulate shooting will assess whether it could be classified as a “terrorist” act.

More details soon…
