A weather alert is currently active for Toronto and the GTHA as rain showers and potential thunderstorms move through the area on Saturday.
According to Environment Canada, a cold front is set to arrive in southern Ontario, bringing showers throughout the afternoon. Some locations may receive between 10 and 20 mm of rain, leading to possible flooding in low-lying areas.
“Portions of the region have received significant rainfall amounts over the last few days. The ground, already near saturation, has a limited capacity to absorb this rainfall. As a result, further rainfall could have significant impacts,” says the national weather service.
The cold front will also cause temperatures to drop overnight as chilly northwesterly winds move into the region on Sunday. While there may be some sunny breaks, high temperatures are expected to remain below double digits, dipping to below zero at night. Typical highs for this time of year should be around 12 to 13°C.
On Sunday, expect scattered showers throughout the day.
Monday will be even chillier with a mix of sun and clouds, forecasted high at 5°C for Toronto and a low of -1°C; these are temperatures more common in March rather than mid-April.
