A crash involving two vehicles in northwest London resulted in a fire and led to road closures Wednesday night, as reported by the London Fire Department.
Emergency teams were dispatched to Sunningdale Road between Wonderland and Hyde Park Roads after receiving reports about a collision that might have left someone trapped.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered one vehicle overturned in a ditch and completely on fire.
The fire was brought under control “within a couple of minutes,” stated London Fire platoon chief Jamie Britton.
“The crews did a great job as far as advancing the line, making access to the vehicle in the ditch and extinguishing the fire,” he said.
Britton mentioned that both drivers had already managed to exit their vehicles before crews arrived and were being checked by paramedics at the scene.
Both drivers were later taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police shut down Sunningdale Road between Hyde Park Road and Wonderland Road while they looked into the incident.
“On a dark night, especially along rural roads, be cautious of the vehicles around you,” Britton said. “Follow the rules of the road and avoid actions that could put yourself or others at risk.”
The cause of both the crash and the resulting fire is still under investigation.
