Today, Rolph Street Public School invites the public to stroll through its halls one last time.

TILLSONBURG – The end of an era is approaching in Tillsonburg as Rolph Street Public School prepares to close its doors this June after 103 years of service.

The closing ceremonies will take place on June 12th, with a big event scheduled for 1 p. m. today at the school. Principal James Bartley shared with Heart FM that they’ve arranged a tent for the occasion and encourages everyone to come celebrate this historic institution. “We have dignitaries from the community, we have representation from the board, as well as trustees, and the director of education. Plus we are going to have our students to share some memories and some performances. So it’s going to be a great day of celebration.”

Bartley mentioned that there will also be an open house tonight from 5:30 p. m. to 7:30 p. m. for anyone wanting to take a final tour of the school. The building won’t be demolished since it has been recognized as a historical heritage site and will remain intact for now.

The final day of classes is set for June 25th, and students will be moved to three different schools in Tillsonburg next September. Most kids will head to New Westfield School, while others will go to South Ridge and Annandale. There are no expected layoffs due to the closure since teachers and support staff at the school will transition into new roles within the school board this fall.
