A Beer Store in southern Ontario has shut down.
The company had earlier announced that one of its locations in Hamilton would be closing this month.
It was first stated that The Beer Store at 1408 Upper James Street, near Stone Church Road, would close at the end of the business day on Sunday, Aug. 16.
However, the closure date was moved up, with a spokesperson telling INsauga. com that its last day of operations would instead be Sunday, Aug. 9.
The store is now marked as permanently closed on Google.
The company previously mentioned that alternative Beer Store locations in the Hamilton area include ones at 673 Upper James Street, 499 Mohawk Road East, and 584 Mohawk Road West.
“The Beer Store is modernizing our retail network to meet the needs of a changing marketplace. Unfortunately, this includes making the difficult decision to close our store at 1408 Upper James Street, Hamilton,” said Ozzie Ahmed, the vice president of retail at The Beer Store.
“We’re committed to providing consumers with the best selection of ice-cold beer and convenient access to the deposit return program through our network of nearby Hamilton locations.
“We know this is difficult news for employees, customers, and neighbours.”
The closure comes after the company actually reopened two of its locations earlier this summer that had previously shut down.
One reopened at 1089 Kingston Road in Scarborough on June 22, and another at 3078 Don Mills Road in North York on June 29.
Those reopenings marked a reversal of a trend of Beer Store closures that have taken place throughout Ontario amid the province’s expanded alcohol marketplace.
