The State Department announced on Monday that the Trump administration is on track to cancel an unprecedented number of visas this year, revealing that over 175,000 have been revoked since President Donald Trump took office again.
These cancellations affected foreign nationals who “violated the terms of their visas, committed crimes, called for violence against US citizens, defrauded Americans, abused our immigration system, or endangered national security,” according to the State Department.
A spokesperson from the State Department told the South China Morning Post that more than 100,000 visas were revoked in 2025 – marking the highest annual figure ever recorded – and that they expect to surpass this number in 2026.
This suggests at least 75,000 more visas have been canceled this year; however, the department did not share a specific tally for 2026 or detail by visa type or nationality.
The spokesperson mentioned that each decision to revoke a visa was made based on individual circumstances surrounding each case.
The official statement did not provide specifics about the revocations by visa category or country of origin but referred generally to foreign nationals and emphasized cases involving individuals from North African countries as well as deportable cases concerning Iranian, Kuwaiti, Cuban and Laotian nationals.
