Visitors to provincial parks can now enjoy alcohol outside their campsites.
The province is easing restrictions, allowing drinking in places like park beaches, picnic spots, and other areas meant for day use.
Parks Minister Todd Mc Carthy expects that people will drink responsibly.
“Staff will continue to monitor and ensure compliance with rules and regulations to keep our parks as safe, family-friendly and enjoyable for everyone as they have always been,” says Mc Carthy.
“They will ensure that alcohol is consumed only where it is allowed, all empty containers are disposed of properly, and the rules around noise and respect for others are met.”
The changes won’t affect local alcohol bans that may still be enforced at some parks during the May long weekend.
Parks will have signs posted to show which areas remain off-limits for alcohol consumption.
This includes locations of cultural or historical importance, buildings where food and drink are already restricted, and places that could pose significant safety hazards.
Mc Carthy believes these changes will improve visitors’ experiences in the parks while also supporting local tourism efforts.
The new alcohol regulations in parks are set to take effect this year.
