Ontario is setting up a $20-million fund in honor of a toddler who tragically lost his life this fall when a vehicle crashed into his daycare centre in Richmond Hill. The province aims to use this fund to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
Education Minister Paul Calandra stated that child-care centres will be able to apply for the Liam Riazati Memorial Fund starting early next year.
Community child-care centres often operate from various locations, including plazas and places of worship located next to parking lots.
The fund will assist daycares in installing concrete barriers while the province looks into longer-term safety measures.
Calandra mentioned that this fund is just a beginning, and if additional support is needed, he’s ready to provide it.
Liam Riazati was killed in September when an SUV crashed into the daycare, injuring six other young children and three adults as well.
