The racing action may have kicked off about an hour late, but Mother Nature didn’t hold back as the Ontario Sportsman Series, Ontario Legend Car, and Ontario Bandolero tours joined the local Bone Stock and Late Model divisions on Saturday, August 8th at Peterborough Speedway.
Former race winner at Peterborough Speedway, Kevin Trevellin, along with Todd Sheppard, led the Ontario Sportsman Series field to the green flag for the first segment of the Silver Wheel 100 presented by AF International. Trevellin quickly grabbed the early lead while Sheppard, Shawn Mc Glynn, Donavin Clark, and Cooper Aubertin followed closely behind. The leaders soon caught up to slower traffic early in the race and put Jamie Morency’s No. 6 a lap down after just ten laps. Trevellin and Sheppard continued to build their lead while Austin Seburn – who had previously raced with the Ontario Bandoleros at Peterborough – fought for third place against Clark until Seburn secured it on Lap 20. Trevellin ultimately took home the checkered flag ahead of Sheppard, Seburn, Clark, and Amber Balcaen.
Eldon Hughes and Shawn Dearmer lined up on the front row as 22 cars got ready for a 20-lap feature in Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock division. Typically known as an entry-level class at this track, they brought out strong numbers to this popular Central Ontario oval. Dearmer took charge early in the race as they started putting backmarkers a lap down after five laps had been completed. A couple of yellow flags due to incidents in turn three bunched up the field again. After 16 laps were run, Zachary Cheng claimed the top position and held on until he crossed first at the finish line with Angelo Novis, Chris Ephgrave, Dearmer, and Jacob Stavropoulos following him.
However, during post-race inspections, both Ephgrave and Dearmer were found with camber violations which led to their disqualification. This meant Stavropoulos moved up to third place while Steve Oakes and Emma Melhuish took fourth and fifth respectively.

The Late Model feature saw Ryan Kimball take his spot alongside Kelly Balson on the front row for a competitive 30-lap race. Kimball jumped into an early lead while Balson chased him down along with Jacob Mercer and Ollie Ferguson right behind them. The leading pair managed to pull away from everyone else until a crash in turn three brought out a yellow flag when eight laps were completed; unfortunately Jacob Mercer’s No. 81 was unable to continue after being towed away from that incident. Kimball and Balson kept their positions until another crash on the backstretch halted proceedings when Steve Powell’s No. 72 flipped over in turn three after completing fourteen laps. Emergency crews responded swiftly to get Powell safely out of his vehicle; he was checked out but walked towards an ambulance afterward without serious injuries noted before another caution came out with just a few laps left in play slowing things down once more. In total , Kimball managed victory followed by Gary Hannah , Dan Mc Hattie , John Owen , and Mitch Wright crossing thereafter.
The No.55 of Ollie Ferguson received penalties for retaliatory contact during that late-race yellow flag situation which resulted in him getting parked for that evening’s events also facing further suspension due speeding issues encountered driving aggressively through pit areas once made aware concerning said penalty.
