Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are shutting down parts of roads in the counties north of London due to strong snow squalls and blizzards expected to affect Huron, Perth, Bruce, and Grey counties until Thursday.
Goderich, Huron County, Bluewater, and Perth County are predicted to experience significant lake-effect snow squalls, with accumulations reaching up to 20 cm by Friday, according to meteorologists.
A previous blizzard warning for Bruce and Grey Counties was changed to snow squall warnings on Thursday afternoon. Both counties could potentially receive as much as 80 cm of snow, Environment Canada has reported.
Blyth Road (County Road 25) is closed from Bluewater Highway (Highway 21) to the border with Perth County, as announced by OPP via social media.
The Brussels Line from Walton to Amberley Road (Highway 86) is also shut down.

Craig Soldan warned in an interview with about the rapidly changing weather and road conditions. He emphasized that locals should only travel if absolutely necessary, particularly if they plan on heading north into Bruce and Grey Counties. “I know we sound like a broken record, but every year we find people stranded. Every year we find people that have sat in their cars for hours. They’re cold, they’ve maybe run out of fuel, their cell phone has died. They can’t get ahold of anybody,” Soldan said. He cautioned anyone who decides to travel to prepare for the worst by making sure they have a full tank of gas, a cellphone charger, blankets, and food supplies. Soldan also mentioned that more roads might close as conditions worsen throughout the day. “We don’t want to close roads because we want people to be able to get home and get to work and travel. However, if it becomes a safety issue, we have no choice. Usually it’s a drifting issue; if the wind is blowing across the roadway. We’ve had vehicles just hit the drifts and then they spin out of control and collide with another.”
