A person discovered earlier this week in a Lanark County park in serious condition is now being treated as a homicide by Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
Officers stated in a press release that they received a call Sunday around 3:15 p. m. in Perth, Ont., where they found an individual with life-threatening injuries. They were located in Last Duel Park near the river.
Police confirmed the person was transported to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Their identity is being withheld until next of kin are informed.
Initially, officials started the investigation as a suspicious death but later classified it as a homicide. They believe the event was targeted and have found no indication of any wider threat to the community. The park has since reopened, and police are no longer present in the area.
The investigation by the Lanark County OPP is supported by the chief coroner officer and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
