Several 911 callers alerted firefighters about a fire that was rapidly engulfing a hedge in Nepean and spreading to a nearby car and house.
Fire crews arrived at the 10th block of Andover Place close to the Ottawa campus of Algonquin College on Wednesday, around 3:53 p. m.
Initial reports indicated that flames were consuming a hedge beside the driveway, and upon arrival, firefighters found that it was quickly spreading to an adjacent vehicle. Additional resources were requested shortly after the first team got there.
The firefighters took a hose inside the home where flames had broken out and began extinguishing them. Another crew searched the residence for any occupants but found no one.
Meanwhile, officials worked on cooling down a nearby house that was also at risk of catching fire. Photos revealed that this secondary property sustained some damage from radiant heat.
The fire was declared under control by 5:05 p. m. High-pressure fans were brought in to clear smoke from inside the home. Victim services were sent to assist at the scene.
An investigation by Ottawa fire officials has been launched to find out what caused the blaze.
