With great sadness, we share the news of our dear mother Rita Torti’s passing. Surrounded by her family, she left us peacefully at Windsor Regional Hospital – Met Campus on July 3, 2026, just a month before her 90th birthday. She was predeceased by her parents Raffaele and Caterina Iosa. Rita was the loving wife of the late Fernando Sr. (2024). She is survived by her devoted children Fernando Jr., David (Angela), and Cathy Evanyk (Wendell). Proud Nonna to Ryan Evanyk. She was also predeceased by her siblings Pineta, Maria, Francesco, Giovanni, Anna, and Elio (with sister-in-law Giovanna Garofalo still living). Many nieces and nephews in both Italy and Canada will remember her fondly. She was a caring sister-in-law to Iole (2024) and Antonio (2013) Pallisco as well as Adriano and Antonietta Torti. Born in Mestre, Italy, Rita moved to Boston at just 19 years old. It was there that she met and married her beloved husband Fernando Sr., starting their family together. While living in the U. S., she worked in various administrative roles for large insurance companies before moving to Canada where she transitioned into food service.
Mom made countless wonderful memories with us, always holding us close in her heart. With much of her immediate family back in Italy, she often traveled home to stay connected with them. Cooking, baking, and nurturing her stunning flower gardens were some of her greatest joys.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Banwell Gardens Care Centre for their kindness during Mom’s stay there. We also thank the medical team at Windsor Regional Hospital – Met Campus for their support during Mom’s final days.
A visitation will be held at WINDSOR CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME- SOUTH CHAPEL, 3048 Dougall Avenue (519-253-7236) on Thursday, July 9, 2026 from 3-5 p. m. and again from 7-9 p. m., with parish prayers starting at 4:30 p. m.
