On Thursday, four children and one adult were taken to the hospital after a serious accident involving a dump truck in Hamilton.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene of the crash on Highway 5, just east of Middletown Road, around 10:25 a. m., according to the Ontario Provincial Police via X.
A sedan was heading east and trying to turn left when it was hit by a dump truck coming from the west, said the OPP.
All five people inside the sedan were sent to local hospitals.
Authorities reported that the 43-year-old female driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries. A 12-year-old boy suffered serious injuries but is stable. The other three children-a 10-year-old girl, a six-year-old boy, and a four-year-old girl-had minor injuries.
The driver of the dump truck, a 63-year-old woman, was unharmed, according to the OPP.
The OPP Highway Safety Division’s Traffic Support Unit is on site investigating.
Charges may be filed against the driver of the sedan, police mentioned.
The highway is closed off for now, with expectations for it to remain shut for three to four hours as cleanup continues.
