We are heartbroken to share that our mother, Dorothy Jean (Hawboldt) Rogers, aged 88, has passed away in Westville. She was born in Springville to the late Richard and Eliza (Keddy) Hawboldt.

Dorothy started her career at Quality Cleaners, where she met her soulmate, Ted. Later on, she worked at Michelin alongside her son-in-law, Clayton. Her final job was managing the behind-the-scenes work for Ted’s small business, T. Rogers Fuels.

She is survived by her children: Maureen Rogers of Westville; Donna (Clayton) Canning of Westville; Kevin Rogers (Carrie) of Caribou; Derrick (Barb) Rogers of Dartmouth; David (Tanya) Rogers of Westville; her brother Richard Hawboldt (Francis) from Mt. William; special niece Susan Watters; special daughter Renie Rogers; best friend and cousin Maureen (Cookie) Lamey; brother-in-law Jerry Rogers; along with 12 cherished grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Ted Rogers, her parents Richard and Eliza (Keddy) Hawboldt, sisters Mary (Melvin) Mac Keigan, Sally (John) Macdonald, Judy (Wayne) Wade, and Pauline Hawboldt, as well as her brother Robert (Sally) Hawboldt.

An enthusiastic camper, Dorothy loved visiting campgrounds in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island with friends. She also fulfilled her dream trips to Florida, London, and Ireland. Attending sporting events to support her kids and grandkids brought her immense joy. Most importantly, she treasured time spent with loved ones-she had a great sense of humor and always stayed positive in conversations.

After Ted’s passing in later years, she dedicated Thursdays as “Dorothy’s Day” for family visits where they reminisced about old times. In the evenings she’d enjoy playing Bingo with her grandchildren. Many weekends were spent shopping at Walmart and Giant Tiger with Cookie (“The Golden Girls”) while catching up with family.

Mom had an enormous heart for children-her own or any child who needed help around the world. She would often lose sleep worrying about them at night and prayed for their well-being while generously donating to children’s charities.

If you ever visited Mom’s home you knew you were leaving only after receiving a hug along with an “I love you,” followed by “Don’t you forget it!” Heaven has welcomed another angel.

The family wishes to express gratitude to Aberdeen Hospital staff especially the RCU unit in Pictou who treated Mom so kindly along with palliative care services who were wonderful as well.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the RCU unit in Pictou or any children’s charity close to your heart.

Visitation will take place at Eagles Funeral Home on Tuesday August 11th from 10 am to 11 am followed by a service at Eagles Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will occur at Heatherdale Memorial Cemetery. Afterward family and friends are invited to gather at Dave and Tanya’s place to celebrate Mom’s life together.
