York Regional Police say that four individuals are facing various charges while they continue to search for a fifth suspect related to an armed home invasion in Richmond Hill, which resulted in serious injuries to a resident.
Emergency crews were alerted to Josie Drive, near Yonge Street and Weldrick Road West, around 7 a. m. on Sunday after reports of at least one weapon being sighted.
Authorities claim that multiple suspects forcibly entered the residence. They stated that someone inside was confronted and assaulted. A gunshot was fired, but officials noted that the injured person wasn’t struck by any bullets.
Before law enforcement could reach the scene, the suspects reportedly fled in a black Cadillac Escalade. The victim was transported to a hospital by paramedics in serious but stable condition.
In an update provided on Tuesday afternoon, police mentioned that the Escalade was intercepted on Highway 401 in Cobourg later on, where evidence from the home invasion site was recovered. A female driver, who was alone in the vehicle at that time, was taken into custody.
Three additional suspects were identified and also arrested based on investigators’ findings from the update.
A warrant executed at a residence in Toronto led to the seizure of cash, an unspecified controlled substance, and ammunition.
Police reported that Georges-Junior Saint-Elien from Terrebonne, Que., faces charges including robbery with a firearm and disguise with intent. They added he is wanted for unrelated offenses by Montreal police as well.
Christopher Fils-Aime has been charged with several offenses including robbery with a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent, possession of a firearm while prohibited, breach of probation, assault causing bodily harm, obstructing justice, possession of ammunition while prohibited and possession of cocaine for trafficking purposes.
Ivy Hewes and Justin Johnson have both been charged as accessories after the fact to robbery involving a firearm.
Meanwhile, authorities continue their search for an unidentified fifth suspect as investigations proceed.
City News spoke with the homeowners-a family of four who prefer not to be named-and confirmed they weren’t harmed during this incident.
Neighbors informed City News that some rooms in the house are rented out; however, police had not released additional details about who sustained injuries during the shooting as of Tuesday afternoon.
