We are heartbroken to announce the unexpected passing of Kelly (Mc Millen) Smith. She left us at her home on January 29th. Kelly was the daughter of Winnie and the late Kenneth Mc Millen. She is survived by her brother Kenny (fiancé Andrea Carr) and countless friends. Her children, Alyssa (AJ), Courtney (Kyle), Cameron, and her grandson, Rory, also carry on her memory. She often expressed that ‘she missed what could have been.’
Kelly grew up in Scarborough, Ontario. Born weighing just 4 lbs. 4 oz., she loved to share how her granny used to put mashed potatoes in her bottle to help her gain weight! She was truly a fighter!
In her twenties, Kelly had a job with a criminal lawyer, which she took great pride in. She traveled extensively during that time, making memories that would last a lifetime.
She married young and had three kids whom she adored deeply. As a stay-at-home mom, she dedicated herself to driving the kids around, spending hours at the ski hill, doing crafts, helping with homework, and tackling projects together. She also volunteered for various groups including Lindsay’s Homecoming committee.
An illness changed everything for her.
Afterward, Kelly returned to volunteering and recently helped out at the Academy Theater in Lindsay, Ontario and Ross Memorial Hospital.
Though life wasn’t always easy for Kelly, she will be remembered for her positive outlook on life. She genuinely cared about others and would often ask how you and your family were doing-sometimes putting their needs ahead of hers. We’ll miss her smile, the beautiful memories we shared, her kindness, and compassion.
‘Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; Love leaves a memory no one can steal’
Taken from us too soon.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life on Saturday, Feb. 7th from 1:00-3:00 p. m. at 4 Heritage Way, Lindsay – community room.
If you’d like to honor Kelly’s memory with something special instead of flowers, donations can be made to the Community Care Foundation of Kawartha Lakes or The Ross Memorial Hospital; it would mean so much to the family.
