With heavy hearts, her family shares the news of Norma Humar’s passing at the age of 92. She died peacefully at home on April 16th, 2026.
Norma was born and raised in South Porcupine, Ontario, on September 11th, 1933. At seventeen, she moved to Thunder Bay-Port Arthur with her parents and had called this place home ever since.
Throughout her life, she loved knitting, sewing, and mending clothes. Cooking and maintaining a tidy home kept her busy. Norma had a fondness for classical music and often enjoyed live band dances during her younger years at the Finlandia Club above the old Hoito on Bay Street. A true music enthusiast, she collected vinyl records and preferred the warm sound of older tunes. She also enjoyed watching classic films and newer documentaries while staying informed about current events.
For many years, she worked in the accounts department at Eaton’s located on Red River and Court Street before later joining Lakehead University as an administrative assistant to the Dean in the education department.
She leaves behind her daughter Margaret Mac Kay (Roderick Mac Kay), grandchildren Alec Mac Kay, Elizabeth Mac Kay (Kohl Dolph), Ian Mac Kay (Leslie Hiller), and nephew Danny Humar. She was preceded in death by her mother Helmi, father Wainio, step-father Peter Pekka, and grandson Peter Mac Kay.
The family appreciates Northwest Funeral Alternative for their support during this time. Norma has been cremated with a private internment planned.
