With heavy hearts, the family shares the news of John Pawluk’s passing at the age of 83 at Pioneer Ridge on August 16th, 2026.
John was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario on January 6th, 1943. He grew up in Current River. Nature and the outdoors meant everything to John. He was a passionate fisherman. Many fishing trips with his son Michael took them to various lakes, both in winter and summer. An avid golfer, he won numerous tournaments along with plaques and trophies. Music was also a big part of his life; he had a natural talent that he passed down to his son Johnny. As a skilled gardener, he always made sure guests left with vegetables from his garden. John enjoyed visiting the casino and made several trips to Black Bear Casino in the States with his friend Dave Scavarelli. A huge Boston Bruins fan, he instilled that love in his son Michael as well. Professionally, John started as a glazier before working for many years at Canada Car across different departments.
He leaves behind his beloved sons Johnny and Michael (Kim), whom he adored from day one. Also surviving him are his cherished granddaughter Savanna (Connor) and great grandson Bentley John, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by nieces and nephews along with their families. He was predeceased by his mother Ethel, father Michael, and brother Don-who are all welcoming him into his heavenly home.
In recent years, as John’s health declined, he continued to show incredible strength throughout it all. His journey included time at Wesway respite care and then Pioneer Ridge over the last month of his life. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Dr. Aseyev at the cancer clinic for giving dad an additional three years with us through compassionate care and wisdom. We also deeply appreciate Lisa, Sara, Cathy, and all other staff members at Wesway for their exceptional support during this time. Although John’s stay at Pioneer Ridge was brief, he received outstanding care there as well; we want to express our gratitude to Cathy, Rhonda, and every staff member who worked closely with John for their kindness towards him and our family during this tough period. Lastly, thanks go out to mom (Marlene) for her unwavering love and support throughout this journey.
As per John’s wishes there will be no funeral service held; instead we plan to celebrate his life later on.
Even though the Pawluk family has faced a tremendous loss, we find comfort knowing that John’s journey here has come to an end and he’s now resting peacefully. We’ll always look toward the horizon waiting for that boat to arrive ashore.
