The Ontario government has kicked off significant construction to expand the Durham College Oshawa GO Station, marking a key step in the province’s effort to establish two-way, all-day GO Transit service on the Lakeshore East line.

This expansion project will introduce two new tracks to enable quicker and more frequent GO services for commuters throughout the Durham region, as stated by officials from the Ontario government in a press release.

Construction teams have begun work on the tracks along with other necessary infrastructure to facilitate future electrification. The plans also feature a new north platform equipped with a canopy and snow-melt system, an extended south platform, new pedestrian bridges, and a bus loop. These enhancements will increase station capacity and improve accessibility, addressing future service needs, including those related to the Bowmanville Extension project.

Earlier this year, crews initiated work on the Bowmanville GO Extension, which aims to extend the line approximately 11.8 miles further into Durham Region. This extension is expected to support around 17,000 daily trips and about 4.9 million annual boardings by 2041, according to officials from Ontario.
