Julius Wilhelm Grueneberg passed away peacefully at home in Toronto with his wife, Karin, by his side. Born in Muenster, Germany, Julius moved to Canada in 1956 at the age of 21 to join his friends in pursuit of a better life in the new world. For him, living in Toronto was an exciting adventure that he embraced fully until he passed away just 18 days shy of his 91st birthday.
Julius was a social person at heart. After completing his apprenticeship in food wholesale back in Germany, he transitioned into auto sales in Toronto. He enjoyed a successful career as a car salesman at Volkswagen for 40 years and earned several awards for outstanding sales performance throughout Canada.
In 1968, he married the love of his life, Karin Gabriel. For many years, they spent their weekends together at the farm he bought in Hekkla, Muskoka. Those were some of his happiest moments when he felt most at peace. He had a passion for trains, driving tractors, enjoying good Scotch, and sharing time with friends. Julius always loved having people around him and lived by the saying “the more the merrier.” He shared countless joyful times with friends and family and often said goodbye with “you’re the best.”
He will be missed.
Cremation has taken place; however, if desired donations to either YMCA Simcoe/Muskoka or Muskoka Women’s Shelters and Services would be appreciated by the family.
