Early on Monday, shots were fired at the US consulate in Toronto, according to Canadian police. This marks the second shooting near the diplomatic site within four months. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

An officer stationed at the consulate “heard the sound of a gunshot in the vicinity here where he was stationed” around 4:45 AM, Deputy Police Chief Frank Barredo told reporters, noting that a bullet struck the consulate’s facade.

Toronto police reported that a white car without license plates was seen speeding away from the scene. Officers attempted to pursue but quickly halted due to the danger posed by the suspect vehicle’s high speed, Barredo said.

The area has been cordoned off and shell casings were discovered. Police have yet to identify any suspects and confirmed that Toronto Police Service’s counterterrorism unit is involved in this investigation.

The US consulate expressed gratitude towards law enforcement for “their response” to Monday’s incident.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) stated it is too early to determine a motive.
