George Albert Craig
Print George Albert Craig (May 17, 1935 – April 14, 2019) passed away unexpectedly on Sunday evening. He will be deeply missed; his life and spirit can’t be replaced. He is survived by his wife, Mary Craig, who was his joy and constant companion for over 60 years. He also leaves behind four daughters and seven grandchildren: Martha and Greg Bondy (Eric and Murray), Mary Lou and Vilhelm Vegh (Aaron and Leigha), George and Christine Drew (Hannah and Corrinn), and Garth and Elizabeth Hipkin (Stephanie). Raised in Amherstburg, Ontario, George spent most of his life in Windsor. He was a humble presence in the community, known for being kind to everyone he met. His quick wit brought smiles in all situations. He radiated happiness, walked with a bounce in his step, and could whistle any tune perfectly. He had an incredible talent for recalling entire musical pieces; he could pause to say hello before seamlessly picking up right where he left off-all thanks to his uniquely talented mind. This skill caught the attention of CBC when they featured him in an interview showcasing his amazing whistling ability. He played the trumpet with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra as well as at many local events with big bands and other performances. In his professional life, he worked at Comerica in Detroit, Michigan, responding to the US Military draft in 1957. After that, he moved with Mary to Germany while stationed in Aschaffenburg for two years. George was also an accomplished woodworker who turned their home into a beautiful space reminiscent of Neuschwanstein Castle. Everyone knew him for his laid-back attitude, positive energy, and hopeful perspective on life. Family and friends meant everything to him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A private family service will take place.
