Frances passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026 at Hogarth Riverview Manor, after a brief illness, at the age of 89.

Originally from Scotland, Frances moved to Canada with her two children in 1967 to join her husband Ian, who had settled in Fort William three months prior. She dedicated many years to Confederation College, where she took on more responsibilities while earning a Diploma in Accounting Management and later her Certified General Accountant designation. She retired as Budget Manager/Internal Auditor in 1996, leaving a noticeable gap in the social life of her female colleagues, as her long-standing “fun and frolic” pool parties ended with her retirement!

Frances and Ian loved traveling together. In their retirement years, they spent many winters exploring southern States, towing their fifth wheel wherever they felt like going. When driving wasn’t an option, they would fly or sail to places like Bermuda, the Bahamas, Spain, France, Germany, Turkey, Greece, Jordan and certainly the UK along with its islands. A passionate reader and creative soul, Frances enjoyed baking, sewing, knitting both by hand and machine, photography, writing poetry, solving Sudoku puzzles and other brain teasers, as well as crafting unique cards for friends.

As an only child, Frances was preceded in death by Ian on November 23, 2017; he was her beloved husband for 61 years. She also mourned the loss of her son John at age 18; her parents; grandparents; and daughter Shona who passed away unexpectedly in 2024 at the age of 64.

She is survived by dear friends across Canada, the USA and the UK.

I (Ronni) want to express my gratitude to the staff on 6 South at Hogarth Riverview Manor for their exceptional care and kindness during her time there.

Cremation has taken place without a service planned. Her ashes will be scattered privately at a later date. If you’d like to honor her memory and friendship further consider performing random acts of kindness just like she often did throughout her fulfilling life.

Condolences may be made through www. nwfainc. com
