Donald (Donnie) Darin Potter from Gravenhurst passed away unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, April 8th, 2026, at the age of 60. He was the son of the late Donald Louis Potter of Barrie and Anna May Mc Crea. Don is survived by his mother, siblings Donna (Percy), Julianne (Phil), Scott, and Keith (Rhonda), along with many nieces and nephews. His good neighbors, friends, and clients will miss him dearly. “The kitchen is a little quieter now, but the stories of Don’s culinary skills, sense of humour, and spirit will be shared for years to come.”
He completed the Culinary Program at Georgian College when he was quite young. He worked as an international chef in prestigious kitchens in Bermuda as well as at his own establishment, Potter’s Fine Dining in Edinburgh, Scotland. Eventually, he returned to Ontario where he shined as the Executive Chef at Taboo Resort in Gravenhurst before successfully launching Muskoka Catering.
Outside the kitchen, Don loved nature and found joy in fishing. He had a soft spot for animals too-especially his beloved dogs and rescued cats. As a young man, he also spent several years traveling with his hockey team while playing defense for the Barrie Colts.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Sunday, May 24th, from 1:00-4:00 PM at Lion’s Gate Banquet Centre located at 386 Blake Street in Barrie, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society.
