What to know

A group of friends, called “Meet The Walkers,” is back in the spotlight after walking 40 km from Toronto to Oakville to make it home for the holidays, finishing their trek in almost 13 hours.
The team, consisting of Michaela Purcell, Sebastian Karall, Hayden Chan, Sophia Franc, and Katie Wang, shared their journey on social media, earning praise and excitement from thousands of followers online.
They’ve become well-known for their long-distance hikes, having previously gone viral for completing the entire TTC Line 2 subway route across Toronto.
Their walking adventures also support a great cause: they’ve raised over $4,000 for the Fort York Food Bank and are planning even bigger challenges ahead, including a future hike to Niagara Falls.

Social media users are celebrating a group of friends who walked more than 40 kilometres from downtown Toronto to Oakville just to get home for the holidays.

The group goes by “Meet The Walkers” on social media and recorded their nearly 13-hour journey from start to finish.

In a video posted on Tik Tok Wednesday, they began at the CN Tower around 7:00 a. m., reaching Oakville about twelve and a half hours later at 7:30 p. m.

“We’re walking home for the holidays!” they cheered in an early video as they made their way west toward Halton Region.

The group-Michaela Purcell, Sebastian Karall, Hayden Chan, Sophia Franc and Katie Wang-took plenty of well-deserved breaks during their trek. At one point, they even met Santa Claus who encouraged them and praised their determination.

This isn’t the first time they’ve taken on long walks. Back in September, they gained attention by hiking along the entire TTC Line 2 subway route from Etobicoke to Scarborough-a trip that lasted nine hours.

Since then, they’ve shared many more walking escapades throughout Toronto and have gathered over 20,000 followers across various social platforms.

Their latest walk to Oakville has once again caught people’s eyes online with commenters applauding their enthusiasm and commitment.

“Christmas came early because a new Walkers post is the greatest present,” said one Instagram user.

“You guys are awesome,” another remarked on Tik Tok.

“Love this,” chimed in yet another user while someone else simply commented with “WELL DONE.”

Apart from their viral moments online, the group mentions they’ve teamed up with Fort York Food Bank using their platform and walking challenges to raise funds. So far they’ve collected over $4,000 towards a goal of $10,000.

Once they hit that target, they’ll tackle an even larger challenge by hiking from Toronto all the way to Niagara Falls.
