Authorities working to solve a long-standing mystery about the suspicious death of a woman from British Columbia say that a now-closed truck stop in Mississauga and a truck driver could provide vital clues in the investigation.

Tammy Eileen Penner, who previously lived in Abbotsford, B. C., was reported missing to the RCMP in B. C. on February 7, 2005.

Following her disappearance, police believe Penner made her way to Ontario.

About six months after her disappearance, her remains were found on August 28, 2005, at a wooded picnic area along Highway 7 between Rockwood and Guelph, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

It wasn’t until nearly two decades later that authorities confirmed the identity of the remains as belonging to Penner.

The Wellington County OPP has been investigating Penner’s case for almost 21 years and announced they have more detailed information regarding her movements in Ontario leading up to her death.

In their renewed appeal for public assistance regarding Penner’s last known locations and any individuals she might have been with, investigators stated she was seen at Midland Mall in Midland, Ontario-about 190 kilometers north of Rockwood-on June 30, 2005.

A month later, “on or around Saturday, July 30, 2005, a transport truck driver may have dropped her off at the now-closed Husky Truck Stop on Highway 401 and Dixie Road in Mississauga,” investigators revealed in a news release issued Thursday.

Police indicated that shortly after being dropped off at the northern Mississauga truck stop, Penner was spotted near a cream- or beige-colored transport truck. At that time, she might have been wearing a beige tank top paired with black corduroy shorts and carrying a blue sleeping bag.

“Investigators are asking anyone who saw Tammy during this time or who has information about her movements to contact police,” OPP said.

If you have any information related to this case, please reach out to Wellington County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Authorities deemed the circumstances surrounding her death suspicious

After discovering her body near Rockwood in August 2005, police noted it seemed as though Penner’s remains had been dragged into the woods about a month prior to their discovery.

A “Woods-brand” sleeping bag covered Penner’s body; she was also wearing clothing purchased from stores located in Montreal area.

“Though the cause of death remains undetermined, investigators have deemed her death suspicious,” police stated.

An examination conducted at that time revealed that before she died, Pennersustained healed fractures onher left cheekbone, nose, and left eye socket. Consequently, she worea partial denturewith two upper teeth missingaccordingto police records.
