While police cars are no longer stationed on King Street, a strong police presence was seen in part of downtown Kitchener on Monday afternoon.
At about 4:00 p. m., officers responded to calls about gunshots reported near the front window of a business and at a bus shelter.
King Street West was shut down between Ontario Street South and Young Street as patrol officers, the General Investigations Unit, and the Forensic Identification Services Unit arrived at the location.
However, investigators discovered that no shots had actually been fired.
“The investigation determined there was no evidence that a firearm had been used,” said police.
“Further analysis by Forensic Identification Services concluded the damage to the business window was caused by a low-velocity projectile.”
Police did not clarify what that projectile was.
No injuries were reported. The investigation is still ongoing.
