An inmate who is serving a life sentence for murder has escaped from custody in Kingston and police say he’s known to frequent Kitchener.
Mason Jenkins is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant after he walked away from Collins Bay Institution on Sept. 24.
According to Correctional Service Canada, staff at the federal institution were conducting a formal head count when they discovered Jenkins was missing from the minimum-security unit.
Kingston Police were contacted and said they were actively searching for Jenkins and notified the public to call 911 immediately if he was spotted.
Jenkins has still not been located and the Provincial Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (R. O. P. E) Squad says he is known to frequent Kingston, Kitchener, and Chatham.
The 49-year-old is described as being white, 5’9″, 255 lbs, with brown eyes and has brown hair but is currently shaved bald.
Jenkins has been serving a life sentence for first-degree murder and possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Anyone with information on Jenkins’ whereabouts is urged to contact police.
