Leanne Caron has been chosen as the new mayor of Guelph.
Caron, who is currently a city councillor, will take over from Cam Guthrie, who announced he wouldn’t run for re-election after serving 12 years in the position.
“This was truly a grassroots, local people focused campaign,” Caron told supporters at her watch party held at Sonic Hall in downtown Guelph Monday night.
“It’s about the next generation and leaving behind a city we can be proud of.”
With all 57 polls reporting, Caron received 23,781 votes, which is 54 percent of the total votes cast.
Ken Yee Chew came in second place with 15,046 votes.
Caron first joined the council back in 2006. Throughout her campaign, she emphasized her top three priorities:
Deliver on affordability. Create an open and collaborative city hall. Build a more livable city.
